Padsicles – what are they and where do you get your hands on them or make padsicles yourself?
You might have heard the term from friends or on social media. Padsicles are frozen postpartum pads. They are used after giving birth to reduce swelling, help relieve postpartum pain, and help with healing. The cooling and ingredients like witch hazel have anti-inflammatory properties as well as healing properties.
Do you want to buy them? Then here are the best padsicles:
Medline Deluxe Perineal Cold Packs
No need to store anything in the freezer here. These postpartum pads give instant cooling comfort and stick great. They are similar to the ones given at the hospital in my experience. You will want to have extras for after leaving the hospital! They also absorb really good!
We recommend using the Dermoplast Pain, Burn & Itch Relief Spray bottle to help even more.
Frida Mom 2-in-1 Postpartum Maxi Pads
Frida Mom has a collection of amazing postpartum products that help with healing and swelling. These maxi pads provide instant relieve and don’t need to be refrigerated. We recommend also getting the Perineal Healing Foam to put on postpartum cold packs and get additional benefits of the healing ingredients.
They are very comfortable to wear and absorb a good amount.
Frida Mom Medicated Witch Hazel Cooling Pad Liners
In comparison to the pads above from Frida Mom, these are thinner and won’t cool as much. They do however, have witch hazel infused and you could place them in the freezer for more of a cooling effect.
Lansinoh Postpartum Recovery Bundle
This bundle is totally worth it! It gives you the essentials for postpartum care – a peri wash bottle and everything you need for your padsicle:
The two ice packs you can freeze and change the 12 disposable sleeves i order to always have one ice pack ready for you. Just add some of the postpartum spray bottle and you’re good to go!
Do you want to try to make your own padsicles?
It is really not difficult at all.
All you need to make padsicles are big pads, aloe vera, witch hazel, and lavender essential oil.
- Lay out your sanitary pads.
- Spread a thin layer of aloe vera gel over each pad.
- Add witch hazel to each pad.
- If you want you can add a few drops of lavender oil.
- Place the pads in a plastic bag or in foil and put them in the freezer.
- Take one of your homemade padsicles a few minutes before use out of the freezer so it is not too cold.
- Enjoy
DIY padsicles are a great alternative that costs less and you can customize them to be exactly how you want them. If you want thinner pads, you can use a regular pad or thinner ones.
A maxi pad is great for postpartum bleeding after vaginal birth. You might feel like you are wearing an adult diaper but be sure everyone feels that way. Just make sure you are feeling alright and can ease any pain as best you can.
